MENTOR, COACH, SPEAKER
CHAIR OF GOVERNORS & TRUSTEES
Empowering The Voices Of Young People
About Me
Shekeila's Current Roles;
At the age of 12, Shekeila faced permanent exclusion, which was overturned on appeal. The process of encountering a governing body at such a young age was a key motivating factor in her wanting to bring younger voices to tables and spaces they usually wouldn’t be in.
Through and beyond her current roles, Shekeila is mentoring and coaching young adults to get into governance and leadership as well as currently working on developing her own mentoring programme to address inequalities and provide opportunities.
Beyond this, Shekeila continues to champion young adults to sit at the tables and enable change.
1.
I am
Committed
"My drive and commitment to young people and beyond comes from my own lived experience. My personal experience of being excluded meant that I had personal motivations to get to this point in my career. I believe every young person deserves an opportunity, more so now than ever as there is less extra curricular activities going on in our communities.
I am committed to creating new opportunities, helping and assisting young people."
2.
I am
Passionate
"I am passionate about making a difference and improving the life, chances and outcomes for young people. It is important in the current landscape to know where there is a missing knowledge gap for young people and I'm passionate about being part of the solutions to the issues young people face."
3.
I am
pioneering
"I am pioneering in making key things like governance accessible, working with organisations such as National Governance Association to setup projects that tackles disadvantages and increases accessibility.
I would like to pioneer young voices into spaces where they wouldn't necessarily be, I am certain that young people have solutions to the problems they face but have no access to platforms for their voice to be heard. "
